“That servant who knew his master’s will
Luke 12:47
but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will
shall be beaten severely.”
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that at an unexpected hour, the Son of Man will come. He then relays another parable about a faithful steward who does as his master commands when the master arrives. But if that servant would not have followed orders, the master would come at an unexpected hour and punish the servant.
Once again, Jesus is warning us to be prepared and vigilant. This is especially true for us, for we know our master’s will (God’s). If we do not prepare accordingly, we should not be surprised about our judgment. God is merciful, but we have greater responsibility and truth entrusted to us.
Let us always work on preparing ourselves to meet Christ by being faithful and growing in relationship with him.
