Gospel Reflection – October 23, 2026

Jesus calls the crowds hypocrites, because they are able to properly interpret the signs of nature but not judge the present time. He tells them they should settle with an opponent before going to court, otherwise their opponent will hand them over to be thrown in prison, and they will not be released until the last penny is paid.

We can also interpret signs of weather and make predictions, but fail to do the same with our spiritual lives. If we can be so in tune with the weather, for example, we should be even more in tune with the state of our souls.

It is necessary to constantly examine our interior lives and correct course when we find ourselves straying. Sometimes we need help from others to do this, perhaps a spiritual director, close friend, or spouse. If we find ourselves falling into a particular sin more easily, we should stop and reflect on how we got there, and how we can come back to Christ. Are you as in tune with your interior life as with the local weather?
