Gospel Reflection – October 19, 2026

A person asks Jesus to have his brother share his inheritance. At this, Jesus tells the crowds to guard against greed, and proceeds to tell them a parable. A rich man had a bountiful harvest and decided to tear down his barns, build new ones, and celebrate for years to come. However, God told him he would die that night and his possessions would belong to no one.

This Gospel is a good reminder to reflect on our possessions. Some of us may own many things, and others not as much. While Jesus is not saying we can’t have anything, he warns us of too much attachment to possessions. For many of us, this comes in the form of money, or perhaps expensive items we own.

If we are too attached to earthly goods, our hearts lack attachment to Christ. We must place God at the center of our lives, not our cars, phones, or houses. Take time to reflect on how you are greedy in your life – perhaps it is in an unexpected area – how can you improve?
