Gospel Reflection – October 15, 2026

Jesus continues to condemn the scholars of the law and Pharisees for building the tombs of persecuted prophets and taking away knowledge of the law for the common person. They become angry at all this and start acting hostile towards Jesus, planning to catch him at something he might say.

Jesus is appropriately harsh with these men, and because of this, they begin to plot his downfall. They clearly cannot take criticism or admit that Christ is right. Many of us can be prideful like the Pharisees and scholars, not wanting to admit that we are wrong and the Church or Jesus is right. However, we are humans full of sin, and God is always right, not us.

Just because we don’t understand something or disagree with it doesn’t mean we are right. Jesus challenges us to reevaluate our assumptions, especially if they don’t align with his teachings. How are you being blind to your opinions, and where can you improve in listening to Christ?
