Gospel Reflection – October 14, 2026

Jesus calls out the Pharisees and scholars of the law for paying tithes of herbs but not paying attention to loving God. He also rebukes them for imposing burdens of the law on people, but not carrying those burdens out themselves.

The Pharisees took care to do the small things, but neglected the larger and more important aspects of the law. We must take care to not fall into the same trap. Jesus disapproves of this behavior, and instructs us to pay attention to judgment and the love of God.

These things are much more important, and help us develop a deeper relationship with Christ. If we are prideful like the Pharisees were, we risk not growing in virtue and holiness. Ask the Holy Spirit to assist you in being humble and paying attention to the most important aspects of our faith.

Saint of the Day

St. Callistus I: died ca. AD 222

“If offences abound, then, let mercy also abound; for with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is plenteous redemption. In the Lord’s hand there is abundance of all things, because He is the Lord of powers, and the King of glory.”

Pope St. Callistus I
