Gospel Reflection – October 7, 2026

Jesus is praying and when finished, his disciples ask him to teach them how to pray, just as John had taught his disciples. Jesus then teaches them the Our Father prayer.

In this familiar prayer, we pray to our heavenly Father that we will not be subject to the final test. We pray for forgiveness, in light of us forgiving others. These are weighty words. Because we pray this prayer so often, do we truly think about what we are praying?

It is easy to say the words, but perhaps not mean them. We must have a forgiving heart to receive God’s forgiveness. We must maintain a strong faith life and persevere until the end of our lives, being faithful to Christ. These are not always easy things to accomplish, but by being intentional with this prayer and asking for guidance from the Holy Spirit, we can grow closer to our Lord. Let us always pray to our heavenly Father, who loves us unceasingly.
