“Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”
Luke 9:9
Reflection
Herod hears about all Jesus is doing and is greatly perplexed. Some people say that John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, or perhaps it is Elijah or another ancient prophet. But Herod knows he had John killed, and keeps attempting to see Jesus.
Many people believed Jesus to be someone other than he was. They thought he was someone come back from the dead, a great prophet from of old. Perhaps they couldn’t take him at face value, for they couldn’t understand him. Today, people still try to say Jesus is someone other than he truly is.
Jesus is God, our Lord and Savior. He was not just a good teacher or a prophet. He performed miracles and proclaimed the heavenly Father’s love for us in a radical new way. He declared that we can become adopted sons and daughters of God if we are baptized and follow him. This is more than human authority can grant – it is Godly authority. Let us always remember who Jesus truly is – not only our friend, but our dearest Savior, Lover, and Creator.
