“Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.”
Matthew 9:22
Reflection
A man’s daughter has just died, and he approaches Jesus to ask him to lay his hand on her so she will live. As Jesus comes to the house, a woman with hemorrhages touches his cloak and is healed. Jesus arrives at the house, tells everyone to leave, and takes the girl by the hand, who rises.
Both people in this Gospel show incredible faith. They believe healing is possible because of faith. In fact, the man believes that Jesus can even raise his daughter from the dead, not simply heal her. The hemorrhaging woman merely wants to touch Jesus’ cloak; for her, a simple touch is enough to heal.
If only we all had faith such as this. Christ invites us to such faith through growing in relationship with him and learning to love him better. Our Lord can heal anything, although we all go through trials of suffering for our own good. Yet through tribulation, we can grow in belief and faith, coming to understand God’s will and how he calls us to be faithful to him. How will you increase your faith in Christ today?
