Gospel Reflection – July 5, 2026

Jesus gives praise to his heavenly Father, and says that only the Father and the Son know each other. He encourages all to come to him who are burdened and labor, and he will give them rest. His yoke is easy and his burden light.

Many of us may find it difficult to rest. In a world full of constant motion and need for productivity and action, rest can be hard to find. In fact, it seems as if we are encouraged to not rest, but always stay on the go. Jesus wants to give us rest, contrary to the busyness of the world.

Resting with the Lord can mean different things for each individual. Perhaps it is physically resting, resting in prayer and silence, taking an overdue vacation, etc. If we pray and ask Christ where he wants us to find our rest, he will show us. Yet our ultimate rest is always found in him, for he provides true comfort and peace. How is Jesus asking you to slow down and rest in him today?

Saint of the Day

St. Anthony Zaccaria: 1502 – 1539

“But how happy good Christians are as they find themselves free from any attachment, for on account of this, neither sword, nor fire, nor height, nor depth, nor an angel, nor any other creature will be able to separate them from their infinite blessedness. And in losing everything, they find everything.”

Sermon 4, St. Anthony Zaccaria
