Gospel Reflection – July 3, 2026

When Jesus appears to the disciples, Thomas is not with them, and so does not believe that Jesus actually appeared. A week later, he is present and Jesus appears again. He tells Thomas to put his finger into his hands and side, and Thomas believes. Jesus says that those who have not seen and yet believed are blessed.

Are you like Thomas? Do you need to physically see something before you believe? Christ asks us to throw that type of thinking away if we want true faith. We cannot see many things our faith teaches, yet we believe it to be true. For example, the Eucharist appears as bread and wine; however, we know it is truly Jesus’ Body and Blood. We cannot see, but we can believe.

Having faith in the unseen can be difficult, but we can witness Christ in our daily lives in a multitude of ways. The Holy Spirit is constantly revealing God to us in small ways. Will you have faith today and believe in Christ, who we do not see but love and worship?

Saint of the Day

St. Thomas: died ca. AD 72

Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
