Gospel Reflection – May 17, 2026

Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. Jesus and his disciples are gathered on the mountain in Galilee, where Jesus commands them to go make disciples of all nations and baptize everyone.

This command of Jesus – to make disciples of all nations and baptize them – was not only applicable for the first disciples, but still applies today as well. As followers and disciples of Christ, we have the power to go out and make other people disciples of Christ, by spreading the Gospel message and witnessing to Christ’s Church.

This can be a daunting task, but as Jesus says, he is with us always, until the end of the age. There is no need to fear when evangelizing, for Christ himself is with us, guiding us in the necessary words and actions that will proclaim his great love for all people.

Saint of the Day

“God is as really present in the consecrated Host, as He is in the glory of Heaven.”

St. Paschal Baylon
