Gospel Reflection – May 16, 2026

Jesus tells his disciples that whatever they ask in his name, the Father will give them. He will soon speak to them clearly, for his hour is coming when he will leave the world and go back to the Father. For indeed the Father loves them because they love Jesus and believe in him.

If we ask something of God, he will give it to us, if it is in accord with his holy will. God does not want to deny us anything that will bring us closer to him; therefore, we should ask for graces and increases in virtues. These bring true purpose to our lives and help us become holy.

Of course, asking God for anything doesn’t mean he will ‘let’ you win the lottery or go on a dream vacation. Our prayers, if they are in accord with God’s will, are always answered, albeit not how we always expect. Call upon the Lord today, asking to grow closer to him in love and faith.

“In times of desolation, God conceals Himself from us so that we may discover, for ourselves, what we are without Him.”
