“But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.”
JOhn 16:32
Reflection
The disciples tell Jesus they don’t need to question anything he says because they now realize he knows everything and came from God. Jesus questions them, saying the hour is coming when they will leave him and be scattered. Yet Jesus is not alone, for the Father is with him. Jesus tells them all this so they will have peace and know that Jesus has conquered the world.
Sometimes, we can feel alone and abandoned – by friends, family, or even God. It is crucial to remember God never abandons us, even if we can’t feel his presence. Christ dwells in our hearts, bringing us inner peace and comfort during difficult times. Jesus tells us this himself, for even though his disciples will abandon him during his Passion, the Father does not.
We must strive to call upon our Lord in times of seeming abandonment, turning to him for comfort. This is not always easy, but it is essential. In doing so, we begin to understand our own suffering more and how Christ is always by our side in the most important ways. Reflect on how you can better remember to focus on God when you feel lonely, afraid, or abandoned. He is love itself, he will never leave you.
