“Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
John 15:5
because without me you can do nothing.”
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that he is the true vine and his Father is the vine grower. The Father takes away branches that do not bear fruit, and prunes the ones that do so they bear more fruit. He commands them to remain in him, for he is the vine, and they are the branches. Without Jesus, they can do nothing.
How true Jesus’ words are – without him, we can truly do nothing. Life seems impossible if you don’t put Christ at the center and bring him into everything you do. When we remain in him, bringing him all our joys and suffering, he remains in us, providing love and peace the world cannot give.
We are all branches of Christ, bringing our unique talents and gifts to God. Done in union with Jesus, all our works have purpose and help us grow in sanctity. We must remember to always remain with Christ, the true vine. He gives us strength and spiritual nourishment to carry out the tasks he has sent us into the world to accomplish.
