Gospel Reflection – May 4, 2026

Jesus tells his disciples that whoever observes his commandments loves him, and in turn is loved by the Father. They will both come and make a dwelling in that person; whoever does not love Jesus does not keep his words.

Do you love Jesus? Do you keep his commandments? It can be easy to say we love Jesus, but just as easy to neglect his commandments. Loving someone does not just consist of saying the words, but of performing actions that prove your love. We would do this for a family member or good friend – it is the same with Jesus.

We can ask Jesus to help us love him better daily. When it is difficult to follow and keep his commandments, let us turn to the Holy Spirit for guidance and the power to persevere. Jesus loves us infinitely, let us love him back.

Saint of the Day

St. Augustine Webster: died 1535

St. Augustine Webster was an English prior during the time England broke away from the Church. He refused to acknowledge King Henry VIII as the supreme head of the Church, and so was hanged, beheaded, and quartered for the faith.

St. Augustine Webster, pray for us!
