Gospel Reflection – April 23, 2026

Jesus tells the crowds that those who listen to and learn from his Father come to Jesus himself. Jesus is the bread of life; the bread he will give is his flesh for the life of the world.

Once more, we read about Jesus calling himself the bread of life. When we partake in this bread, we are offered eternity. Jesus does not back down from his declaration, even if it sounds silly to some.

How can someone be food for another? Yet this is exactly how Christ comes close to us, by letting us literally consume him in the form of the Eucharist. We are blessed to have this gift in the Catholic Church. Reflect on your relationship with the Eucharist – do you take our Lord in this form for granted?

Saint of the Day

St. George: ca. AD 280 – 303

“Let no hardship turn you from the path of righteousness. Stand firm in Christ, and fear no foe.”
