“For this is the will of my Father,
JOhn 6:40
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”
Reflection
Jesus gives part of his famous Bread of Life discourse. He declares that he will not reject anyone who comes to him, and he will not lose anything that the Father gave to him. On the last day, those who believe in the Son will be raised, for that is the will of the Father.
Jesus tells us once more that he is the bread of life. If we come to him, we will never hunger or thirst. He promises to raise us on the last day and have eternal life with him. This is very beautiful to meditate upon, although perhaps difficult as well.
Thinking not only about our death, but eternity, can be daunting, yet if we include Christ in our musings and place him at the center of them, it becomes less scary and more joyful. To be united with God forever, to finally be wholly complete, is what we should strive and wish for. Our God gives us the path for accomplishing this – believing and following his Son, Jesus. Will you do this?
