Gospel Reflection – April 17, 2026

Jesus goes to a mountain where a large crowd joins him. He asks his disciples where they can buy food for everyone to eat, but they do not have enough money, and only can procure five loaves and two fish. Jesus orders the people to recline, and after blessing the bread, distributes it to everyone. There are twelve baskets of leftover food.

Jesus doesn’t do things in half measure. He doesn’t give us only part of our desire or prayer, he gives the whole and more. In today’s Gospel, Jesus provides enough food so that everyone can eat as much as they want, and there are still leftovers. Our God is a generous God.

Sometimes, we might not be able to see all that the Lord provides, but it is eventually revealed. What we receive might not always look like what we wanted or thought it to be, but it is always what we need. Jesus wants to fulfill our desires and set our hearts on fire for him. He is loving and will never disappoint. Reflect on the generosity of God – how has he been generous, and how can you be more grateful?

“God is so good and so merciful, that to obtain Heaven, it is sufficient to ask it of Him from our hearts.”
