“Behold, your mother.”
John 19:27
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
Reflection
Mary stands by the foot of Jesus’ cross, along with the other Mary, Mary Magdalene, and John the Apostle. Jesus entrusts his mother to John, and John to his mother, and from then on, John takes Mary into his home.
Today is the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. We commemorate the tremendous sorrow Mary endured during her life as the Mother of God, especially at Jesus’ passion. One crucial lesson we can take from the Gospel is following John’s example and taking Mary into our own homes.
This can include praying for her intercession daily, praying a Rosary, and consecrating ourselves to her. Through a relationship with Mary, we come to know her Son better and love him more. She wants us to take her into our hearts and learn from her sorrow and her love that Christ is all we need. How can you grow in your relationship with Mary today?
