Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that a grain of wheat remains as it is unless it dies, for then it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life will lose it, but whoever hates his life will save it for eternal life. Those who serve Jesus must follow him, and the Father will honor them.
If we choose to serve Jesus in this life, we must follow him. In one sense, we must follow him to his death, and experience death in our lives to a certain capacity. This can mean dying to ourselves in various ways daily, giving up opportunities, or taking a different path in life than we originally thought we would.
Christ calls us to serve him in the small things – being kind to strangers, loving our family, living our vocations well. In doing so, we learn to die with Christ and grow in love with him. How is Jesus asking you to lose your life for his sake?
