Reflection
Jesus continues to tell the people parables about the Kingdom of heaven. He compares it both to a mustard seed that grows into a large bush and yeast that leavens an entire loaf of bread. He tells them these things in parables to fulfill the Scriptures, which states he will announce the hidden things in parables.
Even though we have the fullness of truth in the Catholic church, along with many theologians, scholars, books, and commentaries about the Bible, we can still be confused at times by Jesus’ parables. Someone’s explanation might not make sense to us or perhaps we even disagree with it.
Parables help us understand the ways of God in a human way. It is impossible to truly understand God while we are on earth, so Jesus gives us parables to impart knowledge that can be comprehended. A good practice to pick up, especially if certain Scripture passages are confusing, is lectio divina. By taking our time reading through a passage, meditating on what stands out to us, and even discussing it with others, we can usually unveil something previously hidden or unknown. The Holy Spirit is always inspiring us to dive deep into Scripture, to reveal the Father to us through parables we can understand.
