Reflection
Jesus tells the crowds several parables. One, about a man who sowed good seed in his field but had an enemy put weeds in it; he tells his servants to let the weeds grow along with the wheat until harvest time. Another, about the kingdom of heaven being likened to a mustard seed; although the smallest seed, it becomes a very large plant.
Jesus explains to his disciples that the good seed is sown by the Son of Man, while the weeds are sown by the devil. As disciples of Christ and children of God, we are the good seed, yet we can still be deceived by the devil and turn into a weed if not careful.
Temptations and evil are always going to be a part of our lives, attempting to turn us away from God and reject him. The devil will attempt to sow despair and confusion in our lives, but in those moments, we can be strong and remember our Baptismal promises, holding on to the truth of Christ. We are beloved by God and he desires to include us in his ultimate harvest where we can be united in heaven.
