Gospel Reflection – June 29, 2026

Jesus asks his disciples who people think the Son of Man is. They reply with various answers, such as famous prophets. He then asks them who they think he is. Simon Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus then tells Peter he will build his Church upon him, and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of saints Peter and Paul. We recognize St. Peter as the beginning of our Catholic Church, the head of the church Christ himself founded. St. Paul is arguably the best evangelist in the history of our Church, bringing the Gospel message to the Gentiles. We can learn from both these great saints.

Although both sinners, God chose them for important missions, so that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection could be shared with the entire world. We, too, have the opportunity to share the Gospel with those we encounter. God has a special purpose for each of us in spreading his love – all we must do is respond to his call. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and courage in living out your discipleship daily.

Saint of the Day

Sts. Peter and Paul

“I, Paul, am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.”

2 Timothy 4:6-7
