Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that everyone who listens to his words and acts on them is like a wise man who builds his house on rock and it doesn’t fall when buffeted by rain and winds. But the person who listens to Jesus’ words and doesn’t act on them is like a foolish man who builds his house on sand, and it collapses. The crowds are astonished at his teaching.
How often do we hear Christ’s words but fail to act upon them? Sometimes it seems his message goes in one ear and out the other. Yet our Lord commands us to act upon his words, not merely listen to them. Anyone can listen, but not everyone takes action.
As Christians and disciples of Christ, we need to be active in our faith, taking to heart what Jesus tells us and living it out daily. For when temptations come and attempt to sever us from Christ, we will be strong and withstand those trials, because we have lived out his words in a real way. If we simply listen to his words but don’t actually live a Christian lifestyle or ignore what he tells us to do, our house of faith will fall easily.
God will help you build a solid foundation of faith in him if you let him. He asks that we listen and act, for this is how we grow in holiness and travel down the path of holiness.
