“Stop judging, that you may not be judged.”
Matthew 7:1
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples they should stop judging others so they are not judged. They need to remove the wooden beam from their own eyes first so they can see clearly before pointing out the splinter in their brothers’ eyes.
We all judge people multiple times a day, many times doing it unconsciously. It can be a judgment about clothing or hair, or perhaps about a person’s attitude or work ethic. Regardless, our judgments often color the way we see a person, for good or bad.
Jesus warns us to stop judging others, and instead focus on ourselves. We each have our own issues we must focus on first, before pointing out problematic things about other people. Addressing areas in which we can improve, especially those that cause vice and sin, brings us closer to Christ and sanctity. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you practice virtue daily.
