Peter began to say to Jesus,
Mark 10:28
“We have given up everything and followed you.”
Reflection
Peter tells Jesus they have given up everything to follow him, and Jesus replies that no one who has given up family or land for his sake will not receive a hundredfold now, along with persecution. They will also receive eternal life in the age to come.
Peter voices something we may think at times – we give up our former lives for Christ, and what do we receive in return? This is not the attitude we should have, but Jesus assures us that giving up everything for him doesn’t mean we have nothing left. In fact, we will receive a hundredfold, and eternal life.
As Christians, we are called to follow Christ completely. Instead of losing out on life, we gain new life through our Lord. We receive innumerable blessings, experience true joy and peace, and have the hope of eternal life with God. Jesus is the only one who can provide us with true comfort in this life and the next, and when we truly follow him and give ourselves up to him, we discover that Christ is the ultimate provider, always watching over us.
