Gospel Reflection – August 8, 2025

Jesus tells his disciples that whoever wishes to come after him must deny himself and take up his cross, following Jesus. Anyone who wants to save his life will lose it, and those who lose their lives for the sake of Christ will find it.

Jesus’ teaching can be difficult to follow many days. We attempt to take up our cross and carry it valiantly, but often fail. We try to deny ourselves something, but fail at that as well. We are offered a choice – follow Christ and gain heaven, or follow the world and lose everything at the end.

It is not easy to deny the many comforts the world offers. Many times, we want to take advantage of them and also commit to Christ at the same time. Usually, this ends with one being a priority and the other placed on the backburner. Let Christ be your top priority in life, not anything else. In the end, you will save your life, even if it seems you are losing it now.
