“‘Come, everything is now ready.’
Luke 14:17-18
But one by one, they all began to excuse themselves.”
Reflection
Jesus relays a parable about a man who invites people to a dinner he is hosting. His invited guests all have excuses for why they cannot come, and so the man instead has all the poor, crippled, blind, and lame attend in their place.
The people invited to the feast give poor excuses for not attending – examining a field and oxen, or just being married. Christ invites us to the banquet feast of heaven – will we give similar unfounded excuses? When we put other things before God, we make him second priority.
God should always be our top priority. He urges us to come to him daily, and detach ourselves from the world. All of us have difficulty doing this in various way. We are attached to work, phones, items, food, etc. It can be hard to turn our attention away from those distractions and focus on God. Yet this is what he asks us to do. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you prioritize Christ today.
