Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples a parable about the Kingdom of heaven, where there are ten virgins who take their lamps to meet the bridegroom. Five are foolish and don’t bring enough oil, while the other five do. The bridegroom is delayed, and when he comes, the foolish virgins have run out of oil and must leave to buy more. They miss entering the wedding feast and are locked out.
We do not want to miss the wedding feast of heaven by being foolish. This could occur if we don’t prepare ourselves adequately while on earth. Thinking we have enough time to repent later in life leads to a life not centered on Christ and instead centered on the world. In doing so, we can easily forget about God and grow further away from him.
However, if we prepare ourselves as the wise virgins did, we will not be taken unawares, for we will have hearts, minds, and souls centered on Christ and be ready to meet him. Reflect on how you can better prepare for eternity – how is Jesus calling you to improve in virtue, love, and holiness?
