Gospel Reflection – August 18, 2026

Jesus tells his disciples that those who are rich will find it hard to enter the Kingdom of heaven. The disciples are astonished, and Peter asks what they will receive for giving up everything. Jesus says that those who give up all for him will receive a hundredfold.

We might ask a similar question as Peter – what will there be for us for giving up our lives for Christ? This is not necessarily the right question to ask, but it does reveal a desire most of us have. We want something for following Christ. Instead of something, we receive Someone – God himself.

We should not look at our relationship with God as transactional, but as a loving and infinitely special relationship. Eternal life is what we are promised for following Christ. We should look to Jesus for everything, for in giving up all that the world considers valuable, we gain eternal treasure with our Creator. How can you grow in your relationship with Jesus today?
