“Why could we not drive it out?”
Matthew 17:19-20
He said to them, “Because of your little faith.”
Reflection
A man asks Jesus to heal his son, who is a lunatic. Jesus’ disciples were not able to do so. Jesus rebukes the demon and the boy is healed, but his disciples ask why they could not drive the demon out. Jesus replies that their little faith prevented them; if they had faith the size of a mustard seed, they would be able to move mountains.
How great is your own faith in God? Sometimes we think we are so faithful and have infinite trust in God. Yet oftentimes a difficult situation arises and our faith falters and we lack the trust we thought we had. Jesus doesn’t give up on us in those moments; in fact, he invites us to greater trust and faith in him.
Building up faith and trust in God takes our whole lives. It is something we must continually work at, by letting God’s will prevail and letting him govern a situation, not us. When we give God little moments of pure faith, they can grow into larger ones. Where can you improve in your faith today?
