Reflection

Today is the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John to a mountain and there reveals his transfigured nature. His face shines like the sun and his clothes become white as light. Moses and Elijah also appear, and God himself speaks, telling them he is well pleased with his Son. Jesus charges the disciples to not tell anyone what they have seen until he has been raised from the dead.

We can only imagine what Jesus looked like transfigured. His absolute brilliance and glory must have been astounding. Imagination can only take us so far, and faith the rest. If we are blessed to be united with God in heaven, we will witness the pure beauty of Christ. It is good to meditate on Jesus’ kingship and supreme authority, for often we look at him as a friend.

While this is a good relationship and posture to have, we must also remember that Jesus is God, one of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. He is due the ultimate respect, love, and worship we possess. Today, reflect on Christ’s transfigured body and his glory – how is he calling you to worship him more fully?
