Gospel Reflection – July 1, 2026

Jesus encounters two demoniacs who ask what the Son of God has to do with them. The demons ask to be sent into a herd of pigs if they are driven out of the people they possess, and so Jesus sends them into the herd, which promptly runs into the sea and drowns. The people in the town ask Jesus to leave their district.

Jesus demonstrates his power over demons in this Gospel passage. He reveals his true authority as God, for the demons plead with him and know they have no real authority. If we let him, Jesus will reveal his power in our lives. Not in a domineering way, but in a loving and gentle way.

Our Lord desires to show us that he truly is God, by helping us understand how he works in our daily lives. If we begin to pay attention, we will notice small things, movements of the heart, inspirations from the Holy Spirit – all which reveal our good God’s gentle hand in our lives. Will you let Christ into your heart and allow him to guide you to himself?
