Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled
Mark 12:24
because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?”
Reflection
The Sadducees question Jesus about marriage after the resurrection, which they don’t believe in. Jesus answers them by affirming that the resurrection is real, and that people don’t marry but are like the angels in heaven.
Once again, a group of people are attempting to trick Jesus by asking him ‘trick’ questions. Of course, Christ outwits them, and in the process, teaches us something about the resurrection and marriage. When we try to thwart Jesus, or ourselves for that matter, in our own thinking, particularly about questions of faith, we only end up deceiving ourselves.
We are not smarter than God or wiser. He knows all, and will lead us to all truth and understanding if we let him. Do not mislead yourself by relying on your own knowledge and power, but rather, rely on God, who is your loving Creator.
