Gospel Reflection – May 28, 2026

As Jesus leaves Jericho, he encounters a blind man who asks to have pity on him. Jesus asks what the blind man would like him to do, and the blind man replies that he wishes to see. Jesus declared his faith has saved the man, and the man recovers his sight and immediately follows Jesus.

The blind man seems to be asking for two things – to see physically, and to see spiritually. When someone declares they want to see, it can have these multiple meanings. Not only does Christ restore the man’s eyesight, but through this, the man encounters Jesus in a profound way and sees clearly in a spiritual sense; in fact, the man immediately follows after Jesus.

We, too, can ask this of our Lord – to see and understand him more clearly in a spiritual sense, to have our soul and interior life illuminated with the light of Christ. Jesus will not deny us the opportunity to grow closer to him. Sometimes all we have to do is ask the simple question. What can Jesus open your eyes and mind to today?
