“I baptize with water;
JOhn 1:26-27
but there is one among you whom you do not recognize,
the one who is coming after me,
whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.”
Reflection
Several people and Pharisees are sent to ask John the Baptist who he is. He says he is the not the Christ, Elijah, or the Prophet. John also tells them he is the voice sent to make straight the way of the Lord. He baptizes with water, but they do not recognize the person among them who is greater than he.
Jesus was in the midst of the Pharisees and lay people while he was on earth, but some did not recognize him, as John the Baptist stated. John was preparing the people for Christ, yet even when Jesus revealed himself, they refused to accept him.
We still live in a world where Christ has been fully revealed, and people choose to reject him. Hopefully we are not one of these, because we have the fullness of truth given to us in the Catholic Church. We have many resources today that can help us learn more about Jesus and grow in relationship with him. Do you take advantage of these things?
Reflect on how you can choose Christ daily and grow in your faith.
