“Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed,
matthew 17:20
you will say to this mountain,
‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.”
Reflection
A man approaches Jesus, asking him to heal his son from lunacy because the disciples could not. Jesus does so, and the disciples ask why they couldn’t drive out the demon. Jesus replies that because they have little faith, they were not able to do so. If they had faith the size of a mustard seed, they would be able to move mountains.
The fact that the disciples did not have enough faith to cure someone can be distressing to us – if even those closest to Jesus didn’t always have enough faith, how can we? Yet this is where ask Christ to open our hearts and give us true faith. Even the smallest bit can do great things, like move mountains.
If you find your faith wavering, turn to the Lord. Put your complete trust in him and ask for the grace to truly believe. He will help you grow in faith little by little, until your faith is an unshakable as a mountain.
Saint of the Day
St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein): 1891 – 1942
“For by doing what God demands of us with total surrender of our innermost being, we cause the divine life to become our own inner life. Entering into ourselves, we find God in our own selves.”
St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross
