Gospel Reflection – August 6, 2025

Today is the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up on a mountain to pray. While praying, Jesus’ face changes and his clothes become white. Moses and Elijah appear, and Peter wants to make three tents for each of them. Before he can do so, a cloud appears and a voice tells the disciples that Jesus is his chosen Son and they should listen to him. After, the cloud disappears and they are alone.

Peter, John, and James hear a voice telling them to listen to Jesus. Each day, we are asked to do the same. Listening to Christ in our daily lives and following his will leads us down a path of joy and peace. We are not commanded to listen to Jesus, but are encouraged to do so. Only Christ can transform our lives for the better and make us fulfilled.

We can be frightened to let go and listen to the Lord. We might not always like what he has to say; yet those are precisely the times when he is calling us to grow in a particular virtue and holiness. Will you listen to God’s chosen Son and let him transform your life?
