“Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones
Luke 24:39
as you can see I have.”
Reflection
The two disciples from Emmaus are telling everyone else about their encounter with Jesus when he appears in their midst. They are frightened that he is a ghost, but Jesus implores them to look at and touch his wounds. He continues to open their minds to the Scriptures as well.
Jesus is not a ghost. He is a real human being, with real wounds from his crucifixion. Sometimes we can forget how real Jesus is, that he is present among us in the Eucharist, even if we can’t see his body in human form. Imagine the disciples’ delight when they saw their Lord once again.
We can meditate on the joy they experienced and being to understand how Christ can fill us with such joy daily, especially when we let him into our lives. How can you meditate on the personhood of Jesus and how his resurrection impacts your life?
