“Believe the works, so that you may realize and understand
John 10:38
that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”
Reflection
The people are about to stone Jesus because they believe he blasphemes, making himself God. Jesus urges them to believe in his works so that they can believe in him, but they do not want to. He goes back across the Jordan river, and there, many people come to believe in him because of John the Baptist’s words.
Jesus asks us to believe in his works so that we can come to believe in him. If we won’t believe his word, then perhaps we will believe the works he performs in our lives. As Catholics, we all believe in Christ, his words, and his works. But sometimes our faith can waver and we find ourselves doubting.
If we find ourselves in difficult situations and not trusting in Jesus’ words, we can rely on the small miracles he performs in our lives, which help us turn back to him. Jesus is constantly asking us to trust in him more, regardless of our situation in life. He gives us the opportunity to approach him daily and trust. Reflect on how Jesus and the Holy Spirit perform miracles in your life, and how those lead you closer to our Lord.
