Gospel Reflection – March 19, 2026

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph! The Gospel reading tells us that when Mary was pregnant, Joseph had decided to divorce her quietly, but an angel appears to him in a dream and tells him that Mary has conceived by the Holy Spirit. Joseph is commanded to take Mary into his home, and upon waking, he does.

St. Joseph is a very powerful saint – he was commanded to take Mary and Jesus into his home and protect them. St. Joseph does the same for us today, protecting and guiding us to his Son, Jesus.

Even though Joseph did not entirely understand Mary’s pregnancy, he obeyed the angel and followed the will of God. We can learn many lessons from St. Joseph. Reflect on how you can obey God’s will, even amid uncertainty. Ask St. Joseph for the grace to do this and for him to lead you to Mary and Jesus.
