“Do you want to be well?”
John 5:6
Reflection
While Jesus is in Jerusalem, he heals a man who has been ill for many years. Since it was the sabbath, the Jews asked the man who cured him, and they eventually find out it is Jesus. At this, they begin to persecute Jesus.
Jesus asks the sick man if he wants to be well. He asks us the same question today – do you want to be well? Christ offers us healing and hope, health instead of sickness. During Lent, as we detach ourselves from worldly goods, we can truly reflect on if we want to be well.
Sometimes we think we want healing, but are too attached to self-pity or don’t believe we deserve it. Jesus is the Divine Healer; he wants to make us well in all the ways that matter. Today, reflect on Jesus’ question: do you want to be well?
