The man believed what Jesus said to him and left
John 4:50
Reflection
When Jesus returns to Galilee, a royal official approaches him and asks for his son to be healed. Jesus tells the man his son will live, and when the man returns to his house, sees that his son is alive. The whole household comes to believe.
The royal official expressed some belief in Jesus initially, but when his son is healed, the belief grows even more. The man had faith in Christ and a miracle occurred. While we should also have faith in our Lord, it shouldn’t be dependent on miracles.
Jesus asks us to believe in him not because of signs and wonders, but because of who he is. We can ask the Holy Spirit to bring us to greater faith, revealing God to us in new ways. Jesus’ own words help us to understand him and believe in him – while miracles help increase our belief, paying attention to Christ in our daily lives does as well. How is Jesus calling you to a deeper faith today?
