Gospel Reflection – March 13, 2026

A scribe asks Jesus which is the first of all commandments. Jesus replies that first, it is to love God with your entire being, and the next greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. The scribe agrees with this, and Jesus tells him that he is not far from the kingdom of God.

We must love God with our whole heart, mind, and soul. During Lent, we are especially invited to do this by detaching ourselves from the world and focusing more on Christ. We cannot love God completely if we love worldly things more or are too focused on them.

It is essential to place God at the center of your life, just as Jesus states. “The Lord our God is Lord alone” – not our phones, our family, our career or hobbies. If we make other objects in our lives into gods, we diminish the value of the true God. How can you refocus yourself on Christ today and make sure you worship him alone?
