Gospel Reflection – March 8, 2026

Today we hear the story of the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus asks the woman for a drink of water, and they end up having a discussion about her past and current sins. Jesus then tells her he is the Messiah, and she goes to the town, proclaiming this good news and believing in him.

Despite being a Samaritan and not following the Jewish religion, the woman tells Jesus that she knows the Messiah is coming – she clearly believes in the concept of a savior. At this, Jesus reveals to her that he is in fact the Messiah. How beautiful this revelation must have been to this woman, and still is for us today.

Even though she was a sinful person, as we all are, she had faith and was not afraid to admit her sins in front of Christ. Is our faith as large? We know Jesus is the Messiah, our Savior, yet we sometimes fear to approach him because of our sinfulness or perhaps lack of a firm faith. Christ invites us in, telling us he truly is our Savior and comes to bring us eternal life.

Reflect on how you can grow in your faithfulness to the Lord, repenting of your sins and reveling in the beauty of Christ.
