Gospel Reflection – February 23, 2026

Jesus tells his disciples that when the Son of Man comes in his glory, he will separate the righteous from the wicked. Those who clothed strangers, cared for the sick, provided food for the hungry, and visited those in prison are the righteous, for they served the Lord when serving the least among them. The wicked did not do this, and so will be cast into the eternal fire with the Devil.

When hearing this Gospel, we might become concerned that we do not help those less fortunate than us enough. Jesus calls us to tend to our brothers and sisters who are in need, for in those moments, we are helping Christ himself.

In fact, we can become Christ to others by performing deeds like helping the homeless, donating clothes and food, or giving of our time. In these actions, we share Jesus’ love for humanity and reveal his goodness. Reflect on how you can help those less fortunate than yourself this Lent.

“For we cannot ‘repent’ from what is better to what is worse; but it is noble to turn from what is evil to what is righteous.”

St. Polycarp
