Gospel Reflection – February 20, 2026

John the Baptist’s disciples ask Jesus why he and his disciples do not fast. Jesus replies that the wedding guests cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them; yet when the bridegroom is taken away, then they will fast.

Jesus is with us in the form of the Eucharist, but during this time of Lent, we are called to fast, and in some ways, mourn. Lent gives us a set time to reflect deeply on our sinfulness and need for repentance and forgiveness. We can mourn at our own wretchedness and use fasting as a way to detach ourselves from this world and attach ourselves to God.

How is your personal fasting for Lent preparing you for Easter joy and better communion with our Lord?

“Jesus wishes to establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world. I promise salvation to those who embrace it; and these souls will be beloved of God like flowers arranged by me to adorn His throne.”
