“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”
Mark 7:28
Reflection
Jesus attempts to enter a house unnoticed, but a Greek woman whose daughter is possessed comes to him and begs for the demon to be driven out. Jesus responds that the children must be fed first, but she replies that even the dogs get scraps from the children. Because of this, Jesus heals the daughter.
The Greek woman who approaches Jesus was obviously not a Jew, but even she recognized something in Jesus that would help her daughter. Her faith and persistence are rewarded. Sometimes Jesus reveals himself to the most surprising of people, and in turn is further revealed to us. Even hearing from family and friends about encounters they have had with the Lord can strengthen our faith and help us trust God even more.
Jesus is aching to give you graces and reveal himself in new and beautiful ways to you. Are we open to him at all times, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us in the way of the Lord? How can you encounter Jesus in a unique way today, being open to his love and forgiveness?
