Gospel Reflection – February 7, 2026

After the Apostles return from preaching, Jesus tells them to rest in a deserted place by themselves. As they leave, great crowds follow them and Jesus has pity on them, for they are like sheep without a shepherd.

The people following Jesus and his disciples were looking for something in their lives – perhaps meaning, love, or healing. In Christ, they found what they were looking for. Jesus compares the crowds to sheep without a shepherd; people wandering without a purpose.

In today’s society, we experience a similar reality. People are lost, looking for something, although they can’t name it. They go looking in various places, jumping from one proposed solution to another. Yet only Jesus is the true answer. He not only provides direction in our lives, but comfort, love, and joy. When we turn to Christ and follow him, our lives take on a new purpose, one filled with holiness and virtue.

There is no need to wander aimlessly when we put Jesus at the center of our lives. He is our Shepherd, and desires to bring us home. Will you listen to Jesus’ voice and follow him?
