Gospel Reflection – January 29, 2026

Jesus asks his disciples if a lamp is meant to be placed under a basket or a bed instead of a lampstand. He then follows up by saying that all things secret will come to light and anyone who has ears ought to hear. To the person who has more, more will be given, and to those have not, even that will be taken away.

We are not meant to hide our Catholic faith from others, like putting a light under a bed. If we did that, not only would our faith be hidden from others, but it would also remain hidden to ourselves and eventually die out. We are meant to proclaim our faith boldly and let its light shine upon all we encounter.

Christ is the Light who brings truth and goodness into every person’s life. When we share our faith, either openly or by simply living a Christian lifestyle, we show others who Jesus is and how his light fills our lives. The joy that we receive from following Christ is palpable to others; it is the light that beckons those far from Christ to ask more, to seek God himself. Will you let Christ’s light shine through you and transform those around you?
